We promise that every single item we sell is absolutely and authentically… beautiful. As for whether these objects are actually as old and valuable as the people who sold them to us swore (often swearing upon their many ancient gods)… well: we’re not always so sure.
We buy and sell things every day that may or may not be Ming Dynasty, that may or may not be Majapahit sculptures, that may or may not have come from a temple in Java, that may or may not be genuine cannibal ceremonial warrior spears, or that may or may not have been found at the bottom of the sea 400 years ago after shipwreck off the coast of Sulawesi.
Given that there is so much dubious business in the world of antiquities, then, our strict policy is that we don’t buy ANYTHING until we’re absolutely certain that it’s…totally beautiful. (OK…to be perfectly honest, sometimes, we buy things that are only semi-beautiful, because we have been completely charmed by the person who is selling the object to us. It’s all part of the romance.) Therefore, we swear that all these objects are either totally beautiful, or that they were sold to us by devastatingly charming people.
We stand by this guarantee with all our hearts.
If you buy an object from us, only to find later – upon closer examination – that it is, in fact, not beautiful, we will happily take it back.
Our prices to you reflect in direct proportion the prices that we ourselves paid for the object. If we got a bargain, then you get a bargain. If we got ripped off, then you get ripped off. But we’ve never really felt THAT ripped off, because we’ve never purchased anything that isn’t beautiful. What is the worth of handmade beauty in the world these days? And mostly – truth to tell – we do get amazing bargains.
(And if you happen to know more than we do about any of the stuff you see us selling…please: tell us. We’re here to learn. It’s all part of the journey.) Please come visit our warehouse of wonders…
